A delightful aspect of Duck is that its size allows much of the village and its attractions to be explored on bicycle or on foot. Charming shopping areas have been tastefully carved into the wooded backdrop and nestled along the sound, providing hours of exploring. Currituck Lighthouse: You must go visit the Currituck Lighthouse while in the Outer Banks. Just take Route 12 north toward Corolla, you will take it almost to the end abd you will see the lighthouse on your left. Make sure you bring your camera on this ride as you will want to take many photos. It's kind of hard to get a good view of the whole lighthouse in your photo due to all the trees. This is a beautiful old brick lighthouse with great views at the top.

Wright Brothers National Memorial: Wilbur and Orville Wright from Dayton, Ohio made the 1st successful, sustained, powered flights in an airplane on December 17, 1903. The 1st flight went 120 feet at a speed of 34mph, the brothers switching off for a total of 4 flights and getting use to the controls and getting further each time. The 4th flight was Wilber and went for 59 seconds and a total distance of 852 feet. In 1932 a monument was dedicated to remember the Wright Brother are their wonderful achievement that very windy day. So visit the museum, the monument and guided tours.

Activities

The soundside north area offers kayaking, parasailing, jet skiing, boating, sailing and windsurfing. There is a bike path that runs the entire length of the village that can also be used for walking, jogging and inline skating. Just north of town is the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers Research Pier, a fascinating world-renowned coastal research facility that is open to the public for tours.

Water sports enthusiasts will find Duck a prime spot for windsurfing, jet skiing, fishing, sailing, kayaking and even parasailing. Several outfitters are available for equipment rental and insider advice. With so much to offer, it's easy to see why many families choose to vacation in Duck.
